Greece remains on the throne of the top shipowning nations by value whose combined fleet is worth USD 516 billion, data from VesselsValue’s latest infographic shows.

According to MANA, the country tops the list with an owned fleet worth almost USD 100 billion, followed closely by Japan and China, with fleets worth USD 89 billion and USD 84 billion, respectively.
According to VesselsValue, the value of the Greek fleet is concentrated in the tanker (USD 36 billion), bulker (USD 35.75 billion), and LNG (USD 13.5 billion) vessel types. Hellenic control of these markets stands at about 19% of the total worth of the fleets.
Japanese companies are the second largest group of shipowners by value. As shown on the infographic, the country’s interests in the dry bulk and LNG segments are on par with the leader, but it does not have as much exposure to the tanker markets.
On the third place in terms of total owned value is China with a fleet concentrated in the bulker (USD 29.4 billion), tanker (USD 18.6 billion) and container (USD 19.8 billion) segments.
