According to MANA, we are very proud of our strategic cooperation with Hyundai Merchant Marine, Korea’s leading container shipping company,” Maersk Line’s Asia-Pacific chief executive Robbert van Trooijen in a statement.
“We believe this strategic cooperation to be a win-win for all parties. Maersk Line’s customers will have greater options on Trans-Pacific trades and HMM’s customers will be able to leverage Maersk Line’s strong Asia-Europe products.”
The partnership has a maturity of three years with an option to extend.
The decision to team-up was made in December 2016, when the three carriers announced details of the new agreement, which will provide HMM access to the 2M pair's network but not a position as alliance member.
In addition to the combination of slot exchanges and purchases, Maersk Line and MSC will take over a number of charters and operations of vessels currently chartered to HMM.
