ICELAND-based Eimskip has inked an agreement with two Chinese shipyards to build a pair of container vessels.

China Builds Ice-Class Boxships for Iceland
According to MANA, Each 2,150 teu vessel is worth about $32m and will be constructed by China Shipbuilding Trading Company Ltd and Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co Ltd, with delivery scheduled over 2019.
The vessels measuring 180 metres in length, 31 metres in width will have an ice class and will be built based on the Polar Code.
They will also come equipped with a Tier III engine which has reduced nitrogen oxide emissions versus older vessels and also has a scrubber system built in to minimise sulphur oxide emissions.
Completion of the deal though will be contingent on Eimskip's ability to secure the necessary resources to finance the newbuildings.
