According to MANA, one person was killed and another injured by an explosion on board a K Line containership headed into the port of Felixstowe late on Thursday evening.
The explosion occurred in the boiler room of the 13,870 teu, 2015-built Manhattan Bridge as the vessel was docking at Felixstowe’s Trinity Terminal. The vessel was arriving from the port of Rotterdam, its next scheduled stop was the port of Hamburg on January 22.
K Line issued a statement confirming the explosion and expressing its condolences to the victim’s family as well as its sympathy for the vessel’s crew.
Port of Felixstowe operator Hutchison Ports declined to comment.
