The newly installed equipment at SNCT is special ship-to-shore (STS) cranes designed to unload cargoes from containerships. Five have been installed in the first phase in the quay section at Incheon port, MANA correspondent reported.
The new mid- to large-size cranes at SNCT, produced by Hanjin Heavy Industries, have outreach of 51 meters long and are capable of unloading 50 containers per hour.
“The introduction of cranes befitting mid-sized vessels expedites unloading work at Incheon New Port,” said Kim Jong-gil, head of the logistics promotion team at IPA.
Meanwhile, SNCT will open the entire part of its 480,000-square-meter quay which is 800 meters long in January 2017. The complete opening of Incheon New Port is expected to give a boost to Incheon port’s logistics service as it will facilitate a pelagic route service and the come-and-go of large vessels.
