first US LNG arrives in China
THE first shipment of US liquefied natural gas has arrived in China, carried on vessel Maran Gas Apollonia, marking the start of a new trade lane and an exciting expansion of LNG shipping.
According to MANA,The 2014-built, 161,800 cu m gas carrier, owned by Greek-Qatari outfit Maran Nakilat Co, is positioned off Shanwei in China, with Guangdong import terminal in China its voyage destination, according to ship tracking data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence.China’s imports are anticipated to rise, supporting US shipments. More than 13 Chinese LNG import terminals are expected to begin operations in 2016-2020, according to energy pricing organisation and consultancy ICIS.
Cheniere owns the Sabine Pass export plant in the US Gulf, the only US plant currently exporting LNG.
