SINGAPORE, the world's second-busiest container port, handled 5.1% fewer boxes in the first half of 2016 from the same period a year earlier as June throughput numbers slipped 0.73%, resuming 15 straight months of year-on-year contraction

 According to MANA, container throughput in June stood at 2.60m teu from 2.62m teu a year earlier, preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore showed.
Month-on-month, Singapore's port handled 2.54% fewer containers from 2.67m teu in May 2016, according to the MPA statistics.
In the first six months of 2016, Singapore's port, the world's second-largest transshipment hub, handled 15.18m teu, down 5.1% from the 15.99m teu handled in the same period in 2015.
Prior to May 2016, the last time the island-city state's port posted a year-on-year rise in container throughput was in February 2015, when it handled 2.60m teu, up around 8.1% from 2.41m teu in February 2014.
For the first half of 2016, Shanghai port's container throughput reached 17.9m teu, 0.8% lower than the first six months of 2015 when container volumes reached 18.03m teu.
