APM Terminals Purchases Stake of Aarhus terminal

APM Terminals has agreed to purchase the 40% stake of its partner Aarhus Service Holding in their existing joint venture terminal in Denmark's largest container port.

 According to MANA,The transaction gives APM Terminals, a unit of the Maersk Group, full ownership of the APM Terminals-Aarhus facility, it said in a statement, without disclosing the purchase price.
“This acquisition reflects our confidence in the Danish market and our goal to expand our Scandinavia profile.” APM Terminals vice president and head of port investments Joe Nicklaus Nielsen said in a statement.
Container volumes handled at Aarhus over the past four years have been steadily increasing, APM Terminals said. In 2015, container throughput rose to 442,000 teu, up by 11% from 399,000 teu in 2012.
In August 2010, APM Terminals Aarhus and Cargo Services, a subsidiary of Aarhus Service Holding, combined their adjacent facilities in a 60/40 joint venture to form the existing APM Terminals-Aarhus.
With a depth of 15 meters, four super post-panamax cranes and three post-panamax cranes, APM Terminals-Aarhus is able to accommodate ultra-large container ships and feeder vessels alike.
APM Terminals-Aarhus facility is strategically located on the Baltic Sea in the port of Aarhus. Aarhus is also close to the manufacturing and industrial centers of western Denmark.
Shipping lines calling at the APM Terminals-Aarhus include CMA CGM, Mediterranean Shipping, Maersk Line, Eimskip, K Line, Containerships, Unifeeder, Sea Connect, Samskip and Teamlines, according to the APM Terminals website.
