According to MANA,The collision happened Wednesday at the mouth of the Piscataqua River near Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Officials say the 477-foot Chem Venus tanker was carrying a load of used vegetable oil and a variety of other industrial chemicals.
No injuries or pollution have been reported. No one was aboard the sailboats at the time.
The sailboats were also damaged, but remained afloat.
