Damen Shipyard builds two ferries

Damen Shipyards has started a project to build two new fast Ro-Pax ferries for the Collectivité de Saint Pierre et Miquelon in Canada.

Damen Shipyard builds two ferries The new vessels will operate on the 40-kilometre crossing between the Saint Pierre, and Miquelon Islands off Canada’s east coast and Fortune, Canada, once the pair is delivered at the end of 2017.
The Damen designed, 55-metre long, 11-metre wide Fast RoPax 5510 has capacity for 192 passengers and crew, three trucks or 18 cars, motorcycles and cargo.
The vessels are expected to cover the 40 kilometres from the French islands to Fortune in a little over an hour.
The pair will be operated by the Board of Maritime Transport. The customer hopes that the arrival of the ferries will make the islands more accessible, encouraging an increased level of tourism in the region.
