Qatargas Inks MoU on LNG with Thailand
MANA correspondent reported Qatargas and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that could see Thailand importing LNG from the Middle East nation.
The MoU will explore collaboration in areas including procurement of LNG, LNG transportation, and floating storage and regasification units (FSRU), and has the scope to cover the import of LNG into Thailand.
Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, CEO of Qatargas said: “On behalf of the team, I would like to convey our deep commitment to working with EGAT and identifying world-class LNG solutions which meet their business needs. Once identified, we look forward to the prospect of building a long-term supply relationship with EGAT."
EGAT is Thailand’s largest electricity producer and plans to import 5m tonnes of LNG a year by 2024. In February Fluor started front-end engineering and design (FEED) for a planned FSRU for EGAT. The FEED project is expected to be completed by mid-2018
Kornrasit Pakchotanon, the governor, EGAT, said: “EGAT is pleased to collaborate with Qatargas, the world leading LNG supplier with strong technology and industry knowledge. We look forward to learning from their expertise and developing the best business solution together."
