HMM's Asia to US West Coast Volumes Climb

SOUTH Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marine saw a 55.3% year-on-year jump in box volumes handed over January this year on the Asia to US West Coast route to 14,899 teu per week in light of former national flagship carrier Hanjin Shipping's receivership last year.

According to MANA, HMM, which has been designated as Korea's next national carrier by the authorities, also reported that its share of the US West Coast market increased to 7.5% last month, compared with 4.9% in January 2015, according to PIERS data.
Evergreen Marine, the merged China Cosco Shipping entity, Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Co and APL take up the first five positions.
"Our volume and market share have gradually increased since Hanjin Shipping's receivership," said HMM in a statement.
