According to MANA, the new reefers will join the 270,000 containers owned by Maersk Line and will have built-in remote container management technology, which converts each box into a digitally linked device for cargo monitoring purposes across the fleet.
Maersk said a portion of the reefers will replace older boxes, while the rest will help it expand its fleet. The new boxes will come from its Maersk Container Industry unit.
“We continue to invest and modernise our reefer fleet to include the latest technologies in supply chain visibility and cargo care,” said Maersk Line head of reefer management.
She added the company is looking to allow customers to access this technology by 2017 via a customer-facing information technology platform, as well as customer pilots.
