Japanese yards see newbuilding orders jump 40%

Japanese shipbuilders have seen newbuilding orders increase by over 40% in the 2015 financial year (FY2015) compared to a year ago.

Japanese yards see newbuilding orders jump 40% According to MANA,A total of 389 vessels of 20.1mgt were ordered between April 2015 and March 2016 versus the 272 ships of 12.8mgt seen in FY2014.
Bulkers accounted for 232 of the ships, or 9.1mgt, ordered in FY2015 against 208 ships of 8.1mgt in FY2014, according to figures from the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA).
Tankers saw the largest increase in orders going from 44 ships of 2.9mgt in FY2014 to 108 ships of 6.7mgt in FY2015.
JSEA members include Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Imabari Shipbuilding, Japan Marine United, Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding, Kawasaki Shipbuilding and Sasebo Heavy Industries.
