In an interview with MANA reporter, the director of the Khalij-E-Fars University of Marine Sciences and Industry stated that education in the field of marine industries officially began in Iran in 1993, and ever since then, maritime program have been gradually created and taught in the relevant colleges.
Dr. Parviz Bavarsad added that now it is time to both develop new programs in maritime industries and to offer master's and doctorate programs for the existing majors.
Emphasizing the fact that Marine Sciences play a significant part in the economy of the country, he added that the maritime transportation technology has undergone massive changes worldwide, and the scientific level of Iranian experts should reach such level that we would adapt ourselves with the on-the-edge international standards.

Proposing that we should all make pertinacious attempt to reduce our dependence to foreign countries in maritime terms, Bavarsad pointed out that by launching doctorate programs in different field of maritime sciences, macro maritime transportation needs to be taught.
