ONE enhances reefer fleet

Ocean Network Express has expanded its reefer fleet with a new order of 14,000 units to meet the growing demand for refrigerated cargo.

The order includes 2,100 reefers fitted with controlled atmosphere technology.

OCEAN Network Express has expanded its fleet of refrigerated containers with the order of 14,000 state of the art, advanced generation units.

The order, comprising 13,000 40 ft boxes and 1000 20 ft units, also includes the addition of 2,100 reefers fitted with ‘controlled atmosphere’ technology.

The technology enhances the effective shelf life of fruits and vegetables by significantly slowing down produce respiration and ripening rates to maximize cargo value on delivery, according to ONE.

The Singapore-based line, launched in April from the container operations of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Line and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, has not disclosed the value of the order.

ONE’s chief executive Jeremy Nixon commented: “with this new investment, ONE will be able to further broaden its market position whist investing in the latest technologies to meet future customers demand.”

“As one of the top reefer carriers in the world, we will continue to strive in order to find new and innovative solutions to enhance cargo care during transit thereby ensuring superior service value”

“The future journey of ONE in the reefer market will be an exciting one to follow,” Mr Nixon added.

ONE said that the new refrigerated containers are being delivered and integrated into the existing fleet starting from end July to early August - just in time to capture peak season reefer demand from the Southern Hemisphere markets.
