According to MANA, HHI, which includes subsidiaries Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (SHI) and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD), said in a Korea Exchange filing that so far this year, the group has won firm orders for 39 vessels worth USD2.3 billion, a three-year high.
In April alone, the group clinched 18 newbuilding orders totalling USD900 million.
The new orders that the HHI group won comprise 13 oil tankers, two liquefied gas carriers, 18 products tankers, and six other vessel types.
April especially saw a surge in orders, with HHI and HSHI winning five orders worth USD420 million, while HMD secured 13 ship orders worth USD430 million.
HHI said, “The orders that we have won year to date are twice as many as we secured in the same period in 2016. We will do our best to show more good news in May by promoting sales, based on our technical know-how and stable financial structure.”
